I have kept the good faith; I have finished the race. 2 Timothy 4:7.

Barbara June Morrow Strider Brawner entered the kingdom of heaven on November 1, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on June 2, 1930, in Pampa, Texas to J.T. and Viola Morrow, she was raised in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. On September 16, 1956, she married Clifford R. Strider, Jr. in Guthrie, Oklahoma, immediately starting a family with four children. The family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1957 and settled in Harahan, adding four additional children.

Surviving her are her children, Clifford R. Strider, III (Carol), Michael M. Strider (Carol), Brian K. Strider (Julie), Rebecca S. Strider, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband James McDevitt, husband Clifford R. Strider, Jr., husband Elwyn B. Brawner, sister Jeri Morrow, children, Manford M. Strider, M. Carl Strider, Douglas P. Strider, Donna M. Strider Giroir and great-grandson Reynaldo D. Robertson, Jr.

While raising eight children in a busy, boisterous, but warm home she managed to cook, clean and offer life lessons to all her children. Meals were always on the table, clothes were always clean and she was always available for guidance. Rumor is that she invented the concept of multitasking. She happily attended baseball games, football games, wrestling meets, school plays, school concerts and dance recitals. Every Sunday morning the entire family could be found in the second pew of Kenner Presbyterian Church. The family was rambunctious, over-the-top loud but deep in caring and full of love.

After raising most of her eight children, but while continuing to raise the youngest children, Barbara enrolled in nursing school at Charity School of Nursing School (New Orleans) and became a Registered Nurse in 1978. She worked at various hospitals but spent many years working in the hospital at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, Louisiana, while residing on the “B” line at Angola and in Saint Francisville, Louisiana. After retiring from Angola, she moved to New Mexico where she continued to perform her nursing duties as a home health nurse and a hospice nurse until retirement.

Her great love, after her Lord and her family, was art. In the late 1960s and early 1970s she painted portraits on Jackson Square in the French Quarter of New Orleans. She later spent much of her time as a commissioned portrait artist in Saint Francisville. Despite her skill in painting portraits, her passion was New Mexico landscape, painting in many mediums, including watercolors, oils, and pastels. She resided in Taos, New Mexico for many years where she was an active member of the thriving art community. In New Mexico she realized one of her dreams when she bought a van and travelled for days and weeks at a time around her beloved New Mexico mountains painting landscapes. Barbara returned to Harahan, Louisiana in her later years to be close to her extended family.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Beau Masion Assisted Living House and Heart of Hospice for their kind care in her final days

Barbara was a devout Christan woman who lived Christan principles everyday of her life. Her love of life, her adventurous spirit, her gentle ways, and her guiding light will be missed every day by her loving family and many friends. Rest in Peace, good and faithful servant.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend services at Tharp Funeral Home 1600 N.
