Mark Colin DeVarney

<p>Burlington - Mark C. DeVarney, 71, died peacefully after a courageous battle with ALS on December 4, 2025. Mark was born Burlington on November 8, 1954. </p><p>&nbsp;<br></p><p>Mark graduated from Burlington High School and Vermont Technical College with honors. He was a registered architect with the State of Vermont and worked at various architecture firms, completing his career with Joseph Architects alongside his good friend and brother of the heart Joe Greene. His superior technical talents spanned designs for churches, restaurants,homes and commercial buildings. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Mark Church. </p><p> &nbsp;</p><p>Mark was an avid and accomplished bowler which led to his induction into the Vermont Bowling Hall of Fame. In earlier years,he enjoyed playing baseball and golf with his brothers. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox,Boston Celtics and the Dallas Cowboys. Mark took pride in tending the exterior of his home and was meticulous in his work.</p><p> &nbsp;</p><p></p><p><br></p><p>Mark is pre-deceased by his parents, Kathryn and Reginald DeVarney; his grandparents, Ethel and Raymond Gutchell and Hermine and Edward DeVarney, and his nephew Christopher Little.</p><p><br></p><p></p><p><br></p><p>Mark is survived by his sister Paula Little and her husband Frank and his brothers Craig DeVarney and his wife Carol, JohnDeVarney and his wife Patricia, and James DeVarney and his wife Susan. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and their families whom he loved dearly.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to thank all the wonderful doctors,nurses, therapists and care givers at UVMMC, Fanny Allen and Elderwood who treated our brother with compassionate care during his battle with ALS. He appreciated all your efforts on his behalf. </p><p><br></p><p> &nbsp;Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. &nbsp;at the Ready Funeral Home 261 Shelburne Road Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark <br>Church, 1251 North Avenue, Burlington. Immediately following, the Interment will take place at New Mount Calvary Cemetery, Plattsburgh Avenue, Burlington, VT. </p><p> &nbsp;</p><p>The family respectfully requests donations be made to the <br>ALS Association in lieu of flowers. </p><p>Arrangements are in the care of the Ready Funeral and Cremation Services. I got to know Mark well at BHS. He was cheerful, clever and had a great sense of humor. So sorry he fell prey to ALS. May his memory be a blessing to his family.
