Obituary
Jacqueline (Albano) Barry, 88, passed away peacefully at home in Longmeadow on July 10, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Richard T. Barry, who predeceased her in 1996.
Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Jackie was the daughter of the late John F. Albano and Mafalda (Grimaldi) Albano.
A graduate of Classical High School, Jackie earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Elms College in 1959, majoring in elementary education. She later continued her studies at American International College.
Jackie began her teaching career in Hampden, Massachusetts, where she taught for two years before joining the Enfield, Connecticut Public Schools in 1961. She dedicated 55 years to the Enfield school system, retiring in 2016 with the distinction of holding the longest teaching tenure in its history. From 1979 to 2004, Jackie was also the concessionaire at Franconia Golf Course, where she welcomed and served golfers under the banner Ye Olde Tee Room. She was active in her community as a member of the Hampden County Democratic Committee, an elections officer for the Town of Longmeadow, a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, the Italian Women’s Club, and the Italian Cultural Center.
Jackie is survived by her sister, Sandra MacFadyen, and her brother, Michael Albano, both of Longmeadow, and nephews Christopher, Michael, and Jonathan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jackie’s memory to the Over Sixty Club at the Longmeadow Adult Center.
A celebration of life will be held at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, on Thursday, July 16th beginning with a gathering of family and friends from 10AM-12PM followed by a funeral home service at 12PM.
