Janice Elaine (Ellis) Patterson

Janice Elaine Patterson, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at her residence.

Born April 7, 1940, in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Martha (Beeman) Ellis. She married Alvie Arnold Patterson Jr. on December 14, 1957, at the Church of God at Nebraska in Jennings County; he preceded her in death on November 18, 2025.

Janice was a 1958 graduate of North Vernon High School and worked in the kitchen for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for several years. She was a member of the Nebraska Church of God in Nebraska. Janice enjoyed reading and auto racing. She loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren play sports.  

Survivors include her sons, Jeff (Robin) Patterson of North Vernon, James (Deborah) Patterson of Scottsburg, and Jerry (Trish) Patterson of Francesville; her daughters, Michelle (Rob) Taylor of Franklin, North Carolina and Julie (John) Head of Live Oak, Florida; brother, Tim (Janice) Ellis of Nebraska; sister, Deloris (Paul) Fox of Nebraska; grandchildren, Heather (Stacey) White of Medaryville, Jerri Bliton of North Vernon, John Head and Stephen Head, both of Live Oak, Florida, Jaime Patterson of Covington, Kentucky, Jennifer Gunter of Carmel, Jacob Patterson of Louisville, Kentucky, Chris Martin of Scottsburg,  Jared Patterson of Francesville, Jason (Cylee) Patterson of Medaryville, Josh (Tayla) Taylor of Franklin, North Carolina, Zach Taylor of Hamlet, Tristan Taylor of Franklin, North Carolina, Jessica Patterson and Justin Patterson, both of North Vernon; twenty eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Robert “Bobby” Ellis and Jess Beeman; and sisters, Diana Grigsby, Joyce Clark, and Patricia Boswell.

A funeral for Janice will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the Church of God at Nebraska in Butlerville with the Rev. Ben Helton and Rev. Bobby Leahigh officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the start of service. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Burial will be at a later date in Otter Creek Cemetery in Butlerville.

Memorials in honor of Janice made be made through the funeral home to the Church of God at Nebraska or Church of God at Nebraska Campground.
