Bernie François Doucet
<p>It is with great sadness that the family of Bernie François Doucet announce his peaceful passing in Villa d'la Baie on July 9, 2026, at the age of 78.</p><p><br></p><p>Bernie was born, raised, and spent most of his life in Cape St. Mary, where he worked as a fisherman. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including farming, fishing, gardening, and carpentry. Bernie loved telling stories about his days on the sea and his hunting adventures. He also enjoyed music, dancing, and spending time in his hothouse growing strawberries with his wife.</p><p><br></p><p>Bernie is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Muriel (Romain) Doucet of Cape St. Mary; his son, Danny (Lisa); and his three grandchildren, Sydney, Jacque, and Shane, of whom he was immensely proud. He also leaves behind his faithful sidekick, Archie, his beloved dog.</p><p><br></p><p>He is also survived by his sisters, Marie Madeleine Belliveau of Villa d'la Baie and Marguerite Saulnier of Salmon River; brother-in-law, Albert (Eileen) Romain; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.</p><p><br></p><p>Bernie was predeceased by his parents, Denis and Eva (Saulnier) Doucet; brother, James Doucet; his sister, Anita Babin; and nephew, Jimmy Doucet.</p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Villa d'la Baie for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion they showed Bernie throughout his stay, and for all they did to make his stay comfortable. The family would also like to sincerely thank Dr. Chandler and Dr. Melanson for their care and support.</p><p><br></p><p>Bernie will be remembered as a strong, hardworking man who cared deeply for his family.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meteghan Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Alphonse Church on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Père Hospice Akoffodji. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.</p><p><br></p><p>Donations may be made in Bernie’s memory to <a href="//villaacadienne.ca/en/">Villa Acadienne Charitable foundation, Villa d’la Baie.</a></p><p><br></p>December 8, 1947 - July 9, 202612/08/194707/09/2026
