Obituary
Scarlet Lucille Dungan Cherry departed this life on July 10, 2026 at the age of 83. She was born June 1, 1943 in Clarke County, AL to George Monroe Dungan and Ruby Louise Phillips Dungan.
Scarlet grew up in Sandflat and attended Thomasville High School where she was a Majorette. She had many fond memories of growing up in Sandflat with her brother, Eudell Dungan and sisters, Joyce Dungan Reeves and Cheryl Dungan Morgan.
In 1996, Scarlet married Milton Cherry. She and Milton retired and spent the time traveling and serving others. They were active members of Fairhaven Baptist Church, Campers on Mission Ministry and Bethel Baptist Association.
Scarlet’s passion in life was helping others and sharing her faith. She embodied the Proverbs 31 women. She lived with quiet strength, unwavering faith and a servant’s heart. She didn’t just read God’s word she became a living example of it. Her family, friends, and everyone blessed enough to know her saw Christ through the way she lived every single day. She had a gentle spirit and always found something good to say. Where others saw faults, she saw possibilities, where others complained, she expressed gratitude. Her positivity wasn’t because life was always easy, it was because her heart was anchored in Christ.
Scarlet is predeceased by her parents, Monroe and Louise Dungan, brother Eudell Dungan, sisters, Joyce Reeves and Cheryl Morgan and her beloved husband of 29 years, Robert Milton Cherry.
She is survived by son, Darren Anderson (Lisa), David Anderson (Vanessa), Steve Cherry (Shay) and daughter, Cindy McDonald. Grandchildren, Wesley Anderson (Katie), Matthew McDonald, Lorraine Pritchett (Kevin), Melanie Mathews (Hunter), Tiffany Whaley, Kenneth Mays (Amanda), Julie Warren (JB), and Sandy Elliott (Clay); great grandchildren, Rhett Anderson, Reece Anderson, Paralee McDonald, Jaxon Nabors, Emma Nabors, Rowan Harbin, Lawson Pritchett, Kendal Warren, Molly Warren, Sadie Elliott, Lilly Mays, Kenny Mays, and Ryder Brandt.
Visitation will be held at Fairhaven Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 15 from 12:00 noon until the 1:00 pm service time with Rev. Scott Stevens and Rev. Scott Fulford officiating. Burial will be at Demopolis Memorial Gardens.
