Carol Ridinger Scott
<p>Scott, Carol Ridinger, 89, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026.</p><p><br></p><p>Carol was born in Charleston, West Virginia, in December 1936. She was the widow of Elbert E. “Scotty” Scott and the daughter of the late Margaret and Claude Ridinger. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brothers, Claude Ridinger Jr. and Thornton J. Ridinger.</p><p><br></p><p>Carol graduated from Charleston High School, Class of 1954, and remained active in planning reunions in recent years. She earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University. She dedicated her life to education, teaching English, Business Education, Reading, and English as a Second Language (ESL) in Virginia and in the Florida school districts of Volusia, Flagler, and Hillsborough counties. While teaching at Van Buren Middle School in Tampa, Florida, she was honored as Teacher of the Year in recognition of her dedication to her students and excellence in the classroom. She was also the author of several educational publications.</p><p><br></p><p>A woman of deep faith, Carol was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Ormond Beach, Florida, where she sang in the choir. She recently returned to Richmond, Virginia, to be closer to her family, a move that brought her great comfort and happiness.</p><p><br></p><p>Carol is survived by her loving son, Gregory Scott (Robin); her grandchildren, Sinclair Reardon (Greg) and Brice Scott (Madison), all of Richmond, Virginia; and her great-grandchildren, Adelaide, Stephen, Noelle, and Grace Reardon, also of Richmond, Virginia. She is also survived by her niece, Catherine McLagan (Dan); her nephews, Jeffrey Ridinger (Karie) and Michael Ridinger (Dana); her great-nieces, Lillian Ridinger and Margaret McLagan; and her great-nephews, Justin Ridinger and Marty Parrill.</p><p><br></p><p>A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Bliley’s Central in Richmond, Virginia. A private burial will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond at a later date.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church, 1035 Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174, or to Suncrest Hospice of Richmond, Virginia.</p><p><br></p><p>The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital and Suncrest Hospice of Richmond for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided to Carol and her family.</p><p><br></p>July 9, 202607/09/2026
