Larry E. Shaffer
<p>Larry Shaffer, 83, of New Castle, passed away the morning of July 11, 2026, at UPMC Jameson.</p><p><br></p><p>Larry was born on June 17, 1943, in New Castle, to the late Russell and Betty Johnston Shaffer.</p><p><br></p><p>Mr. Shaffer was the owner of Shaffer Tree Services for 50 years. He attended Laurel High School. Larry was a member of the Mahoning New Castle Lodge No. 243 Masonic Lodge, as well as a member of the Castle Pistol Club. Larry was also an avid hunter and motorcycle enthusiast. Growing up, He attended Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church.</p><p><br></p><p>Mr. Shaffer is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and John Ciallella, of Findlay, OH; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sara Shaffer, of Hill City, SD; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Shella and Robert Fry, of Boardman, OH, Carol and Curtis Wertz, of New Castle; 3 grandchildren, Mia Ciallella, Olivia and Henry Shaffer and former spouse, Irene Owens Smith.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his wife, Joanne Shaffer.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15th from 2-4 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., New Castle, PA. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 4:00 PM. Rev. Jordan Rimmer will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.</p><p><br></p><p>In leu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society, 628 Pearson Mill Rd., New Castle, PA 16101.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>June 17, 1943 - July 11, 202606/17/194307/11/2026
