Frieda Caroline Goll

Frieda Caroline Goll went to be with the Lord peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the age of 101. The family had a private entombment service at Wisconsin Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Frieda’s honor to Trinity Lutheran Church Freistadt in Freistadt, WI. 

Frieda was born on January 13, 1925, in Milwaukee, WI to parents Christina and Elias Abel. Frieda was the youngest of four girls. The Abel family was proud of their European descent and spoke German in the home while Frieda was growing up. Her mother was a very skilled knitter, crocheter, and crafter. Her father was an artist, designer, and wrought iron fabricator. Frieda was the first in her family to complete high school, an accomplishment she was very proud of. She worked at Eiche Supply Company and then proudly worked for Dr. Fritsche, a dentist, in Brown Deer, as a receptionist for both. Frieda’s quick wit was always enjoyed by her coworkers.

Frieda met the love of her life, Harold Goll, during WWII. They were engaged prior to Harold being drafted in the US Navy and heading to war. Harold was stationed on the USS Guadalcanal aircraft carrier that sunk the German U505 submarine. This was something Frieda was always very proud of and in later years, she enjoyed visiting the U505 at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Frieda and Harold were married upon his return in 1944. They then welcomed their daughter, Judith, into the world in 1946 and they also opened their home by fostering a baby in the 1950s. Frieda and Harold enjoyed building a life with their daughter and constructing their first home in Milwaukee, WI followed by their second home in Brown Deer, WI. Frieda and Harold lived in that home until Harold’s passing in 1994, after 50 years of marriage. After that, Frieda lived in and maintained her home until 2019, but at the age of 94, a fall told her it was time to have a bit more help. That is when she moved into Lasata Crossings Assisted Living in Cedarburg, WI.

Frieda was a treasured member of Christ Memorial Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She was also involved in Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL) and helped coordinate many church events. She could always be heard loudly singing during church services and greeting everyone with a friendly hello and handshake afterwards. Frieda was a devout Lutheran with a faith that got her through the journey of life.

Frieda loved animals. She fostered and owned many dogs throughout her life and loved babysitting her granddog, Buddy. She also found joy in the simple pleasures of working in the dirt (gardening) and sitting in the sunshine. There was always a bird feeder in sight and she loved talking about the birds she would see and the squirrels that enjoyed the feed as well. Her beautiful home was known for its garden and fruit trees which she and Harold tended to very caringly and shared the fruits of their labor with friends and neighbors. Further, Frieda loved flowers which was apparent to anyone visiting her home. There were flowers she had planted all around her yard and she was often found transplanting and dividing them up to share with others. She would light up as she walked people around her yard and told them about each plant. For much of her life, Frieda spent more hours each day outside than inside.

Frieda enjoyed entertaining and sharing what she had with others. She hosted many friend and family events at their home and everyone who knew Frieda, knew about her corn roast party that she proudly hosted every year. So many still share fond and vivid memories of the events.

Frieda loved spending hours in the kitchen baking and cooking. Zucchini bread, rhubarb pies, meringue kisses and stuffed peppers were just some of her family's favorites, and her granddaughters always said she made the best macaroni and cheese and Tang to drink.

Frieda lived a full life with hobbies and travel all around the world. She loved being involved in travel groups, regional bus trips, YMCA Senior games, Senior Swingers dance group, and taking yearly trips to Florida to spend time in the sun and by the pool with close friends. Frieda was a proficient trumpet player, lover of polka music, fan of german festivals, and avid rummage sale aficionado. Every German festival was sure to include doing the chicken dance and teaching her granddaughters how to polka. She was always caught with a laugh/smile in the photos that capture these moments or even the occasional look of annoyance because she didn’t always enjoy having her picture taken. Her granddaughters remember many early Saturday mornings together searching for the best find at the neighborhood rummage sale. Even if she didn’t need it, Frieda bought it. Kings In the Corner card game and Scrabble were always set up on her kitchen table when her granddaughters were visiting.

Frieda was a firecracker and could always surprise those around her with a witty comment. She was blessed with an incredible memory of days gone by and she certainly impacted those who met her. Many family members said she was the “favorite aunt” when they were growing up and those that knew her in her later years while she lived at Lasata Crossings, said she was the life of the party and “popular” everywhere she went. She could often be found at the puzzle table or doing crosswords to keep her mind young. She spent many hours each year sewing and knitting. She loved making afghans, slippers, ear warmers, and scarves for friends and family. She was still trying to thread needles and mend clothes at 101, although her eyesight made it difficult.

Frieda is survived by her son-in-law, Dave Johnson of Delafield, WI, two granddaughters, Lori (Andy) Giorgi (nee Johnson) of Delafield, WI and Tami Johnson of Salt Lake City, UT and two great granddaughters, Eden and Colbie Giorgi. Frieda was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Goll, her daughter, Judi Johnson, and her sisters Christine, Elizabeth and Margaret and many other close family and friends.

The world is missing a spark without Frieda in it, and she is deeply missed by so many that knew her, yet it is with confidence that she had a life well lived.
