David L. Nines
<p>David Lee Nines, 84, of Thornton, WV, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Mountain Hospice Community in Belington. He was born in Grafton on January 10, 1942, a son of the late Carl R. and Gladys R. (Thorn) Nines. </p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents David was preceded in death by one sister, Rosemary Marie (Nines) Johnson and sister-in-law, Lois Ann Bolyard.</p><p><br></p><p>Mr. Nines is survived by his wife Mary A. (Bolyard) Nines whom he married on June 27, 1965; one son, Shawn David Nines and wife Donette (Sapp) Nines of Thornton; grandchildren: Twins Liam David Nines and Reagan Marie Nines; sister-in-law, Margaret Shay and husband Tim; niece, Lori Beth Shay Dunham (Nathan); great-nephew, Mason Dunham; and great-nieces, Maggie and Bristoll Dunham. </p><p><br></p><p>David was a graduate of Grafton High School Class of 1960 and served his country honorably in the United States Army as a Sgt from 1963-1966. He trained at Aberdeen Proving Ground Recovery and Evacuation, served at Ft. Belvoir, VA with Combat Engineers HQ Company, and with the 611th Transportation Company 1965-66 at Vung Tau, Vietnam. He also served with the U. S. Army Reserves 363rd Military Police Company in Grafton from 1973-74. </p><p><br></p><p>David retired from CSX Transportation as Telegraph Operator/Clerk with 35 years of service. He was formerly employed by Crown Cork & Seal in Baltimore, MD and also at St. Regis in Grafton. David was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church; a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Post 24 and the North American Hunting Club. He was also a member of the NRA, American Legion Post 12, Ford SVT and Shelby America. </p><p><br></p><p>David loved his family and friends dearly, and had a love for all animals. His favorite pastimes included hunting, especially wild turkey, and enjoying his Mustang cars. He had a true appreciation for the natural beauty of West Virginia. His greatest loves were his wife Mary, his son Judge Shawn Nines whom he was extremely proud of, and his beautiful grandchildren. </p><p><br></p><p>Family and friends will be received at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home 950 George Washington Hwy Grafton, WV, on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 4 until 8pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 17, 2026 at 9am with Pastor Amy Matthews presiding.
