Stanley Paul Thompson

<p>Stanley Paul Thompson passed away on July 29, 2026, at the age of 89.</p><p><br></p><p>Stan was born on April 14, 1937, to Harold Underdahl Thompson and Klara Nicolena (Bakke) Thompson in Faribault, Minnesota.</p><p>Stan was a retired Naval officer and carrier-based jet pilot. He earned his master's degree in Meteorology from the United States Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He taught college mathematics, statistics, oceanography, and naval history at four different universities.</p><p>After retiring from the United States Navy, Stan held several other positions, including serving as a member of the Cook County Rescue Squad, a Sierra County Sheriff's Deputy, and a published poet.</p><p><br></p><p>Stan was an active member of the Rotary Club of Truth or Consequences, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and he served on the Sierra Vista Hospital Governing Board. During the years he was writing poetry, he could often be found enjoying coffee at the Black Cat while working on his next poem.</p><p>Stan is survived by his wife of 12 years, Karen; daughter, Barbara; son, Michael; and sister-in-law, Jeanie.</p><p><br></p><p>Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Klara; first wife, Patricia; brother, Richard; and daughter, Katherine.</p><p><br></p><p>Cremation has taken place and no services will be announced at this time.</p><p><br></p>
