Obituary
James Percival, lovingly known as Jim, passed away on November 2, 2026, after a long illness. Born on October 26, 1937, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Jim lived a life rich with love, laughter, and dedication. He was the beloved son of James and Lillian, who predeceased him, along with his cherished sister, June, and his devoted wife, Joyce. Jim and Joyce shared a beautiful marriage that spanned over 50 years. Together, they built a life filled with love and mutual respect. After Foster Grant Corporation, where Jim worked in the polymer division, closed in 1986, the couple embarked on a new adventure. Joyce's passion for animals led them to open a dog grooming business. Not long after, Jim found his true calling as a letter carrier in Leominster, a job he cherished until his retirement from the Postal Service. Even in retirement, Jim kept active, serving as the Chief of Operations at the Fitchburg Car Wash on John Fitch Highway, a role that brought him great joy and camaraderie. Jim was a man of simple pleasures. He relished his early morning routine, beginning with breakfast at the Fifth Street Diner, surrounded by friends and laughter. A lottery scratch ticket was a small delight he allowed himself, always hopeful and ever the optimist. His days often concluded at the car wash, where he was a familiar and friendly face to many. Jim is survived by his loving nieces and a close-knit group of friends who were like family to him. His warmth, generosity, and humor touched everyone he met, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and goodwill. In honoring Jim's life, a service will be held on November 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lavery Chartrand & Alario Funeral Home, located at 99 Summer Street, Fitchburg, Massachusetts. A calling hour will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, a gesture that would have meant much to Jim. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff at UMass Worcester and Oakdale Rehab and Hospice Care in West Boylston, Massachusetts. They also wish to express special thanks to the Veterans Administration for their unwavering support and care. James Percival's life was a testament to love, community, and resilience. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
